Hiya :) It's been a busy time for me recently, so it's been all quiet of the poetry front! However, I've managed to write this one on Sunday, and having a reuinion with the creative juices has been just what I've needed! It might be a while until I write another, and I'm sorry to say that this is hardly a positive one!! I think it does have a funny tone to it though! It tells the story of someone who wants nothing to do with romantic love- it seems more trouble than its worth! So the person is basically telling Cupid where to go! And I'm sure the style is a little inspired by the quirky delightful song lyrics of "Stupid Cupid" written by Howard Greenfield and Neil Sedaka and sung wonderfully by Connie Francis :D

I wouldn't mind my version being turned into a song (if anyone would be interested?!)- though it would definitely need tweeking to make it more "lyrical". Well I do hope you enjoy it in its poem form! Sending love and best wishes :) Mel XXX
Back off Cupid!
I see Cupid coming with his dart,
Drunk with love behind the wheel,
So I put a cage up around my heart,
With bars of the strongest steel!
When there's a malfunction of his spell,
That's when you get hit!
Which is why I'm going to repel,
And do everything I can to protect from a crack or a split!
Love is temporary magic,
It tricks you into a trap,
The honeymoon is over too quick,
And then you’re lost without a map!
So Cupid let me give YOU some directions,
Just keep driving West whenever I’m at East
And I’ll give my heart an inspection,
To make sure your visit hasn’t left it creased!
The heart can be damaged from the hunt,
When someone tracks it down to scar it with lies,
So I don’t mind if I’m deficient,
In dwindling love supplies!
It’s a life of sorts,
It’s not so bad without the kisses,
So if Cupid should come again I’ll escort,
Him off these precious premises!
And if his knocking rings like echoes,
Trying to catch my heart with a bid,
I’ll reinforce the locks and throw away the rose,
Shouting the words “Back off Cupid!”
