MelJayNaray Poem: Rainbow in the Sky

Rainbow in the Sky

Though on Earth you’re not here to show your shades,

And every day I wish you could have stayed

When I see a Rainbow in the Sky,

I remember it will never be goodbye

And to that Rainbow the tender kiss is blown

Because God told me that He hasn’t left me all alone,

He said that you will always be His masterpiece

Wrapped in a silken blanket that will never crease

He’ll keep your colours safely contained and stored

And during times when the sky seems dark and flawed,

He’ll pour your Rainbow so it reaches down to bring some comfort

So bright you can even see it with your eyes shut

Even the Sun will feel compelled to call a truce,

With the rain so that together they induce…

A loving pathway where your captivating colours can surface,

A soothing vision reacquainting me with the feelings that I’ve missed

And one moment in time for when my heart exhausts,

From having to beat simply because it’s forced.

Seeing your rainbow means my heart just skips,

To remedy the gloom of grief’s eclipse.

My Baby Rainbow though I could collapse,

At the need to hold what’s in the blanket that tenderly wraps,

To capture the lullaby of your cry for my heart’s records…

To protect you with my loving maternal swords…

To guide you in your endless hunts

To make life’s sharp knives a little more blunt

To wipe your tear when you trip upon the stairs,

To serve you a banquet when you ask for a meal that’s square

To have you do the opposite of what I insist

To make memories upon which we can reminisce

To be your constant when chaos intervenes

To help you use your colours to paint magic scenes…

The Rainbow in the Sky is my hoist

As I lose myself in a multicolour choice

Red wraps around my heart with a hug of love and passion,

Orange opens the bright days to rival the light from the sun,

Yellow uses its unassuming and humble glow with tones so neutral

Green grasps the eye’s soul to shadow the sights that are dusty and dull

Blue blows its healing waters to sink deep into the bruise

Indigo’s ink writes the message upon my heart with letters that you choose,

But only when I see all seven colours, I know it is a Rainbow that I can trust

So Violet visits vowing to join in the colour chorus,

These are your colours, the ones you would have shown

And now it is from Heaven that you have sewn,

The holes deep within and the core of a gaping wound

I see again and hear the sounds of life retuned

Beautiful Baby, Earth thought it had lost out but your colours never went to waste,

You’re my Rainbow in the Sky and I’m forever embraced

National Poetry Competition

Hi everyone :) Hope everyone is keeping safe and well. It is an honour to present my next poem to you and it will represent a very special time in my life.

As some of you may know, I entered the National Poetry Competition for 2011 and...Well, I didn't win anything! Of course disappointing, but not deflating, because I believe it wasn't in Jesus' Will and that's good enough for me!

It was wonderful to actually take part and write a poem for the competition and I am really pleased I entered, it's something I would never have tried in the past, so that's progress!!

And I truly believe a wonderful poem has come out of it- a poem that is  emotional, hopeful, and...well I would really love to hear what you think. The guidelines for the National Poetry Competition meant that poems had to be 40 lines long. With the news that I hadn't won a prize, it gave me the opportunity to look at my poem and with Jesus' Guidance, make improvements. As a result, I am much happier with the poem now, wanted to finally present it to you. It is now longer than 40 lines, and wouldn't be suitable for re-entry.

It's a very sad story of someone who has lost their baby, so if this would be too distressing for any of you to read, then please don't read- I would not want any of you upset. I hope it has a message of hope as well. The poem will be the next post.

Thank you for everyone who has been so encouraging with my entry news and for all your warm messages of support. Massive thanks for your continued support of my poems :)

Thank you to the Poetry Society for bringing us wonderful opportunities such as the National Poetry Competition

And HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to the winners of the National Poetry Competition 2011 who will be publically announced on March 29th- I look forward to reading your beautiful pieces and am excited for what the future holds for all of you- such an incredible launch in your poetic career and no doubt well deserved!

Love and kind wishes to all
Mel XXXX
