Legacy of Find Mike #FindMike - a poem to the Rethink Mental Illness team XXX

The incredible campaign that is helping raise awareness of suicide and promoting a message of hope – a beacon of light through the dark...

“Legacy of Find Mike"

Listeningthe gift shown by a man who was willing to hear

Emotion- freely flowing, clearing through the smear

Gracecaptured at the heart of the this act of benevolence

Altruism- extending beyond and leaving a trail of evidence

Compassion- underpinning subsequent actions, a constant theme

Yourself- the ability to be this with enhanced self-esteem

Opennessbreaking through the barriers that kept things closed and hidden

Finding discoveries of hope and spirits that are passionate and driven

Friendshipbuilt on solid ground, they shall be lifelong, enduring, eternal

Inspiration- that extends into the world through mediums virtual

New- outlooks, knowledge, perspectives and conceptions are woven

Directionsdoors that were shut tight now begin to open

Mikea name that has become an adjective, a quality

Ideas- limitless, innovative, they fuel the future odyssey

Kindness- to show this has become our united endeavour

Endings- surely give way to new beginnings that will last forever?

Failing instructions

The failing instructions to a poorly mind

By Melanie Jay Narayanasamy

Tell me to pull myself together and I end up in knots and tangles
Tell me to see the light and you blow out my fragile candles
Tell me to snap out of it and I end up with breakages and fractures
Tell me to paint on a smile and I become an actor

Tell me to move on and I end up closer to the edge,
Tell me to promise to get better and I’ll make a dishonest pledge
Tell me to lighten up and the weight turns into a heavier burden
Tell me to think of those less fortunate and my mind does worsen

Tell me it’s nothing serious, and it becomes quite critical
Tell me it’s all in my mind even though I feel it in my heart and places physical
Tell me to “cheer up, it might never happen” when it’s already occurred
Tell me you’re listening, when your ears are closed and haven’t heard

Tell me that in your day, you “just got on with it”, and I will see no future
Tell me to get up, stand tall and walk and I fall deeper into stupor
Tell me to go outside into the world and I become alien in a fruitless endeavour
Tell me these failing instructions and this robot will malfunction under pressure
